The grandmother of a six-year-old boy who was discovered in France expressed her relief and happiness at his safe and well-being.
Oldham resident Alex Batty vanished after vacationing with his grandfather and mother, who were not under legal guardianship.
A driver in the south of France, close to Toulouse, discovered him on Thursday.
Legal guardian Susan Caruana expressed her happiness, saying it was "so good to hear his voice and see his face again".
She stated that she had spoken with Alex in a statement released by Greater Manchester Police.
"I cannot begin to express my relief and happiness that Alex has been found safe and well," she continued.
"It was wonderful to see and hear his face and voice again during our conversation last night.
"I can't wait to see him when we're reunited."
"Excellent experience"
The now 17-year-old told French officials he wished to return to his life in the UK and that he and his mother had been travelling nonstop since they vanished in 2017.
Alex should be able to travel back to the UK on Saturday or Sunday, according to the officials.
Ms. Caruana continued: "The main thing is that he's safe, after what would be an overwhelming experience for anyone, not least a child."
She asked to be left in private so that the family could "make his return as comforting as possible".
It is unclear where Alex's mother is at the moment, and his grandfather is thought to have passed away six months ago.
The boy found in France, Alex Batty, a British teen who "left mother to avoid Finland move," says he wants to return home after a long journey on an unlit mountain road.
After two years in Morocco, they relocated to the French Pyrenees.
According to the authorities, he was never enrolled in school at the time of his disappearance.
